Origin

Pinolite is a graphitic dolomite in which magnesite is embedded. The gemstone takes its name from its appearance, which is very similar to that of pine nuts. As an alternative trade name, it also bears the name "Ice Flower Stone" or "Ice Flower Magnesite". This is due to the fact that the magnesite crystals look like frozen frost flowers on the dark background.
